When life feels busy and it's hard to slow down, Aromatherapy Massage gives you 60 minutes to simply stop. Gentle, rhythmic massage and an essential oil blend selected for you help you settle, unwind and deeply relax.
My Aromatherapy Massage combines a gentle, rhythmic massage sequence with the therapeutic use of essential oils individually selected for you.
Much of the massage sequence I use is based on the Micheline Arcier aromatherapy massage technique I was trained in. Over the years, I have continued to develop my treatment through my experience working with individual clients while retaining the gentle, rhythmic flow at the heart of the massage.
Your treatment begins with a conversation about how you're feeling, what has brought you in and what you're hoping to experience from your massage that day.
Sometimes you may want to deeply switch off and have nowhere else you need to be. On another day, you might want to feel calmer and more settled while still having the energy to continue with the rest of your day.
Your treatment is adapted accordingly.
When there's always something else to do, it can be difficult to find genuine time to stop. Your massage gives you dedicated time where nothing is being asked of you.
You might sit down at the end of the day but find your mind is still going through everything that has happened and everything that needs to happen next.
Sometimes it isn't until you begin to slow down that you realise just how much tension you've been holding through your body.
Periods of stress, busy schedules and poor sleep can leave you feeling as though you're constantly running on low reserves. Aromatherapy Massage provides an opportunity to slow down and rest.
You don't need to wait until you're completely overwhelmed to book a massage. Sometimes the reason is simply, “I don't do anything for myself very often.”
Before your first appointment, you'll complete a client information form so I can understand relevant health information and anything I may need to consider when planning your treatment.
When you arrive, we'll talk about how you're feeling physically, what's happening for you and what you're hoping to get from your massage that day.
Your massage generally begins with you lying comfortably face down. I start with gentle, rhythmic movements alongside the spine before gradually working through the lower and mid back, upper back and shoulders.
From there, your treatment generally includes the backs of your legs before you turn over, followed by areas such as your face, arms and fronts of your legs. Depending on your individual treatment, I may also incorporate your abdomen or feet.
The pressure is gentle without being as light as Manual Lymphatic Drainage, and this isn't a deep tissue or remedial massage. The rhythm and flow of the treatment are an important part of creating an experience where you can gradually settle and unwind.
The essential oils used during your massage aren't a standard blend that I use for everyone.
As a Clinical Aromatherapist, I select your oils based on our conversation, what you're hoping to experience from your treatment, how you're feeling on the day and any relevant health or safety considerations.
I generally select around three essential oils to create your individual blend. I'll also ask whether there are particular aromas you love or dislike so I can take your preferences into consideration.
Your blend becomes another part of creating a treatment that is specifically for you, rather than simply providing the same massage each time you visit.

One of the things I love most about Aromatherapy Massage is creating the space for you to simply stop for a while.
We often think we're relaxing when we're sitting on the couch, scrolling through our phone or watching television, while our mind is still thinking about work, family, tomorrow's list or everything we haven't finished.
I can't turn your thoughts off for you. What I can do is create a warm, calm treatment space where there is nothing you need to achieve, organise or respond to.
For the next 60 minutes, you can simply settle into the table and allow yourself to be cared for.
Clients often tell me afterwards:
“That was so relaxing.”
“I feel like I'm floating.”
“I didn't realise how much tension I was holding.”
And sometimes:
“I've never had a massage like that before.”
There isn't one treatment schedule that suits everybody.
For most new clients, I recommend a second Aromatherapy Massage within approximately 14 days of their first treatment. This gives you an opportunity to notice how you felt following your massage and gives us a chance to build on that first experience.
Your first treatment can also involve becoming familiar with me, the treatment environment and the massage itself.
Some clients find that as the experience becomes more familiar, they are able to settle into subsequent treatments more easily.
From there, we'll find a rhythm that works for you.
Some of my regular clients choose to come every three weeks, others every four to five weeks, and others every six to eight weeks. What's appropriate for you will depend on why you're coming, what's happening in your life and what feels supportive for you.
There is no expectation that you follow a set treatment schedule. We'll find the rhythm that suits you.

While relaxation is an important part of the treatment, my Aromatherapy Massage isn't simply a standard massage with essential oils added. The massage itself follows a gentle, rhythmic aromatherapy massage sequence, and I individually select your essential oil blend according to your needs and what you want from your treatment that day.
No. Aromatherapy Massage uses gentle to moderate pressure and rhythmic movements rather than deep tissue or remedial techniques. If you're specifically looking for remedial massage, this isn't the appropriate treatment for you.
You'll generally undress to your underwear and remain appropriately covered throughout your treatment. I'll explain what to expect and make sure you're comfortable before we begin.
Absolutely. I'll ask whether there are particular aromas you love or dislike. I'll take that into consideration alongside what we've discussed and any relevant health or safety considerations when selecting your blend.
Your health history is one of the things I consider when planning your treatment and selecting essential oils. Depending on your individual circumstances, I may adapt the massage, modify the oils used or recommend that treatment isn't appropriate at that particular time.
Not at all. You don't need to wait until you're exhausted or struggling to switch off. You may simply enjoy massage, want some dedicated time for yourself or choose Aromatherapy Massage as part of the way you regularly care for yourself.

If you're ready for some time where nothing else is being asked of you, you're welcome to book your Aromatherapy Massage with me at Celestial Aromatics in Gilles Plains.
